Counseling for Children & Teenagers
|
|
The
mental health of children and teenagers is very important.
Especially in today's world with all the influences
that they face from peer pressure, TV and music violence,
school, family conflicts, loss of loved ones, divorce,
confusion about life and the many other issues they
face.
Their
mental health will effect how they think, feel, and
act as they face life's situations. It affects how
they will handle stress, relate to one another, and
make decisions. Their mental health will influence
the way they look at themselves, their lives, and
others in their lives. Like physical health, mental
health is important at every stage of life, especially
in our children and adolescents. When untreated, mental
health disorders can lead to school failure, family
conflicts, drug abuse, violence, and even suicide.
All
aspects of our lives are affected by our mental health.
Caring for and protecting our children is our obligation
and it's critical to their daily lives and their independence.
I
believe that the first step of helping a child or
adolescent, is understanding the problem they face
from their perspective. Only then can we begin to
work on a corrective solution that they can accept
and understand. In short, it's about meeting them
where they are, and working to build them up from
there, or to help provide the necessary corrective
measures based upon the total problem(s) they may
face.
